Frequently Asked Questions.

  • Henderson Highway is a busy and loud. Please check your pets gear before bringing them in. Collar/harness should be tightened so pets cannot slip out. Please use our back room if your pet is sensitive to sounds.

  • There is parking out front on Henderson Hwy just not during the hours of 3:30pm-5:30pm. There is also parking on Cheriton Ave (the first immediate right after the Joint) and at the back of the building. We recommend clients use the back parking lot Monday to Friday from 3:30pm-5:30pm as there is no parking on Henderson Hwy. We are also able to take your pet in through the back door and we have a doorbell out back for you to ring as the back door will be locked. This is also a great option for pets that are nervous/reactive around moving cars!

  • This depends on the breed of dog, coat type and behavior. Estimated times for small dogs 1-1.5 hours, medium dogs 2 hours, large dogs 2.5 hours and extra-large dogs 3+ hours. We will always give you a call when they are all ready to be picked up.

  • Unfortunately, we can’t have owners stay and watch the groom as it can potentially cause an incident to happen. Dogs are very excited when they see their owners and with us using sharp tools this could become very dangerous for your pet. We will always let you know during the groom if any problems occur and how your pup did for their spa day upon pickup.

  • We recommend getting your dogs nails done every 2-3 weeks to keep the quick short and every week if trying to get the quick to recede.

  • Every dog requires a different grooming schedule. Typically, long haired dogs require grooming every 4-8 weeks depending on length of coat and double coated dogs every 8-10 weeks or whenever heavy shedding occurs (season changes).

  • We only use top of the line professional products designed for all different coat types. All dogs react different to things so if your pet ever has a reaction to a shampoo, please let us know immediately so we can note it in their file. Whether your pet is shedding, has dry skin, allergies or just in need of a shine boost we got you covered!

  • Here at Comb & Collar Grooming Inc. we want your pet to be as comfortable as possible during their stay. We always attempt to velocity dry your dog completely while they wear their happy hoodie to protect their ears. Sometimes the noise is just too much for some dogs to handle so in those circumstances we will let them relax on the floor with air lightly blowing on them until they are dry. Dogs like people are all different and we promise to always use the best method that suits your pets needs.

  • Of course! Pictures show us a visual idea of what you’re looking for and we can put it in their file. Having said that your pet may not have the same coat type as the picture resulting in a different look.

  • We are a one-on-one based grooming salon so about 15 min before your pet is done, we will call for pickup. Dogs can just hang out in the salon when finished until owners arrive. We do have kennels and tie outs for safety for pets that don’t want to socialize with other dogs.

  • Puppies benefit from desensitization to grooming as young as possible. You can practice touching their paws at home, brushing them and using a spoon on their face to get them used to the scissors and clippers if they’re a breed that needs hair cuts. We recommend your puppy to be 12 weeks before coming for their first big spa day.

  • Yes! We just ask that you make us aware of this and we will keep your dog apart from other dogs and will need you to pick up as soon as their finished to avoid any unnecessary stress on your pet.

  • We have many different techniques to try and calm your dog and try and complete the groom but if we feel it is causing too much stress on your pet or ourselves, we will stop the service and ask that you pick your pet up as soon as possible. We will charge for whatever services were completed and give you advice on other options.

  • During drop off we will do a coat assessment on your dog to check for any matting or other skin issues. If there is very minor matting in some areas, we may be able to brush it out which will result in matting fees. When there is severe matting the only humane option will be to shave it off. De-matting is very painful for your dog and destroys the coat which in return will mat even easier in the future. We will make sure you’re aware of this.

  • We always try our best to make your pets nails short and avoid touching/exposing the quick but when working with moving animals sometimes this can happen. Therefore, we always (unless dog won’t tolerate it) clip and grind dog’s nails to get right up to the quick but not too close. In the event a quick is exposed we put a styptic powder on to stop the bleeding and if it opens at home you can put flour on the nail.

  • Yes. We will only do a comfort groom with no bath to avoid unnecessary stress on your pet. We also ask that you also stay close by and pick up immediately once completed.

  • Yes. We are happy to take any dog into our care as long as we believe it is in their best interest. You will be asked to be available to pick them up as soon as the service is completed or if any point during groom that it becomes unsafe to continue. In severe cases where we feel we cannot groom your pet safely we will recommend a veterinarian for your grooming needs.
